Marty Thompson

Cutting and coloring hair are in Marty’s blood. He began coloring his own hair as a teenager and then expanded to neighborhood friends.

Marty wore his hair long until he decided to get the current style, a Gypsy Shag, and shortly had an epiphany during that haircut: Marty Thompson had the vision of almost a blueprint in his mind of how that hair was being cut and what the result would be. Marty left there telling his friends that he could cut their hair, and so it began.

Thompson then got his license shortly after and have never looked back. Being a haircare professional is the only career he has ever had. A wise person once said if you love your career you’ll never work a day in your life. This is the story of Marty’s life.

As of recent Marty is a partner/owner/hairstylist at Salon4 for the past eight years. In addition to that hairstylist position he managed all social media, their  website and helped gain an internet presence  all while managing inventory. He obviously learned a tremendous amount about social media during that time at Salon4, which he will continue to implement.

Prior to that Marty Thompson worked at Salon Platinum Aveda Spa, a Robert Lewis owned salon and spa, in Westfield Shopping Town Montgomery for six years as a manager/hairstylist.

Thompson began working for Robert at the original Robert Lewis Salon on Rockville Pike as a hairstylist for the eight years leading up to the opening of Salon Platinum Aveda.

 Marty began his early hairstylist career at Scissor People in Bethesda and moved on to Avante’ Hair Designers after Scissor People closed suddenly. He continued at Avante’ Hair Designers for 15 years, developing many of the techniques he still uses to this day and many of his current guests.

Marty takes inspiration from everything around him, all the time. Colors, shapes, textures and feelings are reflected in his work every day.

Among the best education  Marty Thompson has received are the Wella Trend Vision classes hosted at Salon4 2-4 times a year. Helping hone many techniques that he uses almost daily.

Marty has also trained with product companies to be an educator: a haircolor company and a haircare product company. He learned everything needed to know to go into other salons and teach about the company’s products, but when it came down to it “I realized my passion lie behind the chair.”.

 Marty Thompson is highly trained by major industry product lines such as Aveda, Paul Mitchell, Wella and L’Oréal and he looks forward to the many exciting opportunities offered to him every year.
